Emirates sells whole fleet to hit climate goals

In an effort to achieve zero emissions by 2021, Emirates will sell their complete fleet in 2020. Their action comes after signing an agreement with Wizz Air and Air New Zealand to reduce the worldwide CO2 footprint.

“We can save billions in fuel and reduce our CO2 emission to 0” says Jane Williams, head of Energy and Environment. Emirates’ fleet consists of more than 250 planes, mostly widebody Boeing 777s and A380s. With the money Emirates is planning to pay of their debts. “It’s really a win-win situation”

This view will soon be history if Emirates continues their plans.

What the company will do next has yet to be decided. Rumors of alternatives range from manufacturing cat food, starting an online store with jewelry and becoming a SpaceX competitor by building their own spaceships.
